An emblem of vigilance… ‘Don’t Tread on Me”

Think of a Tea Party and the bright yellow unmistakable Gadsden flag comes to mind.
Let no lesser authority than arch liberal firebrand Chris Matthews of MSNBC illuminate the flag in his introduction to his mockumentary ‘The Rise of the New Right.’ “’Don’t Tread on Me’, the revolutionary war flag has become the symbol of the New Right, flown at tea parties, anti-health care rallies, militia training camps and by members of Congress at the American capitol. In the American Revolution the flag flew as a warning to the British oppressor but this time the enemy is not a foreign king but the government chosen in an honest election by the American people.”
Whilst all real Americans show due deference, respect and enthusiasm for the Stars and Stripes, there are many in the Tea Party and Patriot movements who choose the Gadsden flag with its defiant coiled rattlesnake and unmistakable Don’t Tread on Me motto symbolized by the coiled rattlesnake. We all recognize the distinct flag and most know its name but who was Gadsden and why the rattlesnake?….

‘We the People’ are all right wing extremists now

Just three words… ‘We the People’… known across the globe as to that which America stands for.

Does it still? The Tea Party movement demonstrates an emphatic “YES”

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Thomas Jefferson said “The People ….are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.”

On April 15th 2009, Tax Day, it was revealed that those American citizens thinking of attending a tea party in the State of Maryland were named as potential threats by that State’s National Guard. A report issued April 9 was titled “Planned TEA Party Protests;” part of the report includes the following definition of this so-called threat:

“Right-wing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely, it may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”…
