A Broad Church?

Another new face in the Republican Party to watch out for. (And vote for).

Ernesto Sampson.

Remember that name. He’s going places and the first stop will be the Virginia House of Delegates as the next representative for the 69th District this Novemeber.

I’m tired of the left wing media calling the GOP an organization of old white men. It is not. The Party is diverse and increasingly so. Heck to coin her trademark phrase we even had a woman run for Vice President. Just the wrong sort of woman apparently; not liberal enough for those folks.

At convention, Virginian Republicans had the pleasure of hearing one Adnan Barqawi speak towards the end to a hushed crowd. Kuwaiti born, he became a citizen of the US just this past April. Another guy out of the mold going places and ignored by mainstream media.

Which brings us to Ernesto. He grew up in a single parent family and served the nation in the United States Army and is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington.

According to Ernesto, his mother taught him the values of hard work, perseverance and integrity. Well, it certainly paid off. He also believes in education and is the product of public schools in Suffolk. Schools and jobs are his priorities and rightly so.

Ernesto‘s accomplishments and associations are too numerous to mention but suffice to say he has made his mark far and wide.

I had the good fortune to first meet him at his kick-off event two months ago. Didn‘t know anything about him and frankly just went to help a fellow Republican and it was only two blocks from my house. It was a Saturday morning and I expected about ten people. Couldn’t have been more wrong. The venue was packed and there were some pretty important people there. Ernesto spoke, initially rather nervously, but swung into his stride in less than a minute and blew the room away. People were looking at each going ‘who is this guy?’. “Wow!”.

Ran into him again last night and can safely say this is a young man to watch. I would not be surprised if we see Ernesto Sampson in the Governor’s Mansion. With his commitment to education, his decency and a lovely, strong wife by his side he would make an outstanding Gubernatorial candidate. If this sounds like a campaign ad, perhaps it is. It’s not often people impress me as I am that cynical but Ernesto is someone worth knocking on doors for and anyone who knows me knows I just don’t do that.
